Cheltenham Cemetery is one of Adelaide’s oldest cemeteries, commencing
operation in 1876. The Cemetery represents a significant part of the history of
the local community of Port Adelaide, which has grown from a grouping of small
communities to a large metropolitan suburb.
The Cemetery has a number of significant historical monuments of the district's early pioneers.
Cheltenham Cemetery is unique in that it is one of the first cemeteries to become totally full and subsequently redeveloped to provide burial sites to meet the community's ongoing needs.
Facilities
Redevelopment within this cemetery ensures that burial sites are available to meet the community’s funeral needs. In addition, concrete burial vaults have been installed that allow full monument covers and headstones. Cremation memorials are provided in the form of rose bush or rose garden memorials.
Opening hours
The cemetery is open to the public every day of the year.
